Heat Rocks From The Tree Tops

Summer jams from up above.

[Note]: Normally I wouldn’t have this many established (already on the radio) joints on the tape, but this is my first tape in a minute so I gotta start somewhere *shrug life*. Oh, and I normally only put like 15ish tracks on a tape, but I’m makin up for lost time. Tracklist + commentary commencing.

1. Young Jeezy feat. Lil Wayne- Ballin: Elbows as projectiles music. Wayne murders this, and Jeezy’s bravado is on 100,000 trillion.

2. Pac Div- Anti-Freeze: This West Coast trio done made some trunk music. Wordplay + subterranean levels of bass = mean. I dare you not to scowl while you bounce to this.

3. Wiz Khalifa feat. Chevy Woods and Neako- Reefer Party: Wiz and co. hijack Waka Flocka Flame’s ‘Grove St. Party’ beat and do somethin mean to it. Fillin-out-a-scantron-with-a-sharpie flow (stupid). This track epitomizes why I love the internet– I no longer really have to listen to terrible rappers over dope ass beats. 80% percent of the time I can count on somebody fresh jackin the beat and makin it infinite iPod fodder.

4. The Game feat. DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Fabolous, and Lil Wayne- Bottles & Rockin J’s: While at this point all of Lex Luger’s beats sound the same and the hook is extra yawn worthy, Busta & Weezy each spazz on this one. [Sidebar]: I’m just gonna go ahead and apologize for the amount of Rick Ross on this tape *head shamefully lowered*.

5. Big Sean- I Do It: The keys on this beat are rather murderous, and BIG is focused. A good look for Detroit.

6. Lloyd feat. Trey Songz and Young Jeezy- Be The One: Watch out for the hook– it’s gonna get stuck in your head and you’re gonna like it.

7. Kelly Rowland feat. Big Sean- Lay It On Me: Yo, shout out to whoever found Kelly Rowland and made her relevant again. *googles Destiny’s Child “Cater 2 U” video* *heroin sigh* [Sidebar]: Hold up, hold up, hold up. I’m gonna have to do a whole post on that video, and we can have a discussion about it. That sh!t is mean.

8. Big Sean feat. The Dream- Livin This Life: A standout track from Sean’s debut album. Feel good summer music.

9. The Hood Internet feat. Freddie Gibbs, Telli of Ninjasonik, and Elizabeth Harper of Class Actress- VCR: Let it be known that I love gangsta rappers paired with female singers in this type of dichotomous fashion. The beat is knockin and Gibbs is a one man wrecking crew.

10. Kanye West feat. Lil Wayne, Big Sean, and Drake- All Of The Lights [Remix]: I know this joint leaked a while back, but this is mandatory summer symphonics. The final version with ‘Ye actually on it still hasn’t dropped yet, but this track has staying power regardless.

11. Wiz Khalifa feat. Chevy Woods and Neako- Chuck: Again, Wiz brings out the crew to sh!t on a Lex Luger beat (Lil Wayne & Ross’ ‘John’). While the original is phenomenal, and Rick Ross is even tolerable on it–Wiz is in the zone on this one.

12. Bad Meets Evil (Royce Da 5’9″ & Eminem)- Fast Lane: Royce has been underrated for like 10 years, and I still can’t decide whether he or Elzhi is the best rapper outta Detroit ever. Hopefully doing an entire EP with Em will propel him into a higher stratum. They’re both spittin somethin fierce, so once again Detroit is well represented.

13. Big Sean feat. Kanye West and Roscoe Dash- Marvin & Chardonnay: This is Big Sean’s version of Drake’s ‘Show Me A Good Time’ . Club Banger. ‘Ye is ignorant.

14. Nas- Nasty: *dylan voice* Nas is spittin hot fire! This is Nas at his finest, in ‘Made You Look’ mode. This is that  b-boy-stancin-at-the-top-of-a-space-elevator flow.

15. J. Cole- Workout: Long awaited first single off of Cole’s debut album, droppin sometime this summer/fall. Funky.

16. Fabolous feat. Ne-Yo and Ryan Lesile- Look At Her [You Be Killin Em Pt. II]: F-A B-O L-O U-S is out here killin the radio.

17. DJ Khaled feat. Drake, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne- I’m On One: This track f!ckin goes. Drake sounds fresh, Ross is bringing something to the table (don’t ask me what), and Wayne is a f!ckin alien. I wanna listen to this whilst residing inside a glass pyramid on the moon. Don’t judge.

18. Kelly Rowland feat. Lil Wayne- Motivation: Confession time– I can’t stop bumpin this. It’s my sh!t. Rainy-day-under-the-covers music. “Finders keepers”.

19. Ludacris feat. Trey Songz and Lil Wayne- Sex Faces: Sip some syzzurp to this one. And do some other stuff.

20. Miguel feat. Pusha T- Sure Thing [Remix]- I like this song in the way that I like alotta R. Kelly’s later additions to his catalogue. That is to say, the melody, hook, beat, and flow are dope, but the verses are a little corny. Pusha’s verse puts this one over the top.

21. Curren$y- She Don’t Want A Man: Spitta spittin tales about a Jet Mrs. This beat makes me wanna zone out whilst drivin through Chicago.

22. Drake- Dreams Money Can Buy: Haunting, honest, revealing. Drake at his finest lyrically. The first of multiple songs bridging ‘Thank Me Later’ and his second LP ‘Take Care’.  One of my favorite tracks out right now.

23. The Weeknd- The Birds Pt. I: A R&B artist outta Toronto, The Weeknd is pretty anonymous, even in the Wikipedia era. He’s gonna blow up though…watch. More posts on The Weeknd comin soon.

24. Drake- Marvin’s Room: F!!!!ck. Oh, you ain’t made a call like this before? Stop it. Keep it real. “I’m just sayin…”

25. Fabolous feat. Trey Songz- Slow Down: What it would sound like if Leonardo DiCaprio was on syrup, ghost ridin the whip in Inception.

26. J. Cole- See It To Believe It: Cole’s just flowin on this one. Beat’s bangin.

27. Cyhi Da Prynce feat. Big Sean- Woopty Doo- Some semi-anti-materialism rap. This is the type of beat I wanna hear from ‘Ye on the regular.

28. Kendrick Lamar- Hiii Power: Produced by J. Cole, this is another one of my favorite tracks out right now. Lyrically dense, this soundscape needs to infiltrate the masses.

29. OG Ron C, DJ Khaled, Drake, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne- I’m On One [Chopped & Screwed]: Had to include this as a bonus. May not be for everyone, but you’d probably have to be from the south to understand how dope it is anyway. *shrug*
